Sunday Morning Rugby VS Royals Side One and Two

Sunday, March 06, 2011 - Marquette Park - St. Louis, Mo.

The spring season is in full force. Around 35 guys have been attending Wed practices. We have a nice group of new guys on the team. We are trying to get second games on game day so that everyone gets a chance to play.

Our home opener was against the Royals, the best team in our division. Though the score does not reflect it, a 27 – 5 loss, we are much improved from when we played the Royals last year. Tim Hamer scored our only try. Mike Freeland won the PhD.

Our second side had a nice showing, winning 15-10. Patrick scored twice as did big Matt. Patrick and Cameron shared the PhD. more photos here... PHOTO: From Match.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Rowdies

Sunday, March 20, 2011 - St. Louis, Mo. - Marquette Park

Sunday Morning showed up to play with over 40 players against our long time rivals the Rowdies. The match started out slow for the boys in purple and with many mistakes the Rowdies playing disiplined ball was able to take advantage. The first half was spent defending our try zone and with a couple broken plays the Rowdies were up 17-0 at half. Sunday Morning Coaches Andy and Doug put in replacements and made adjustments and the team responded well. The second half SMRC showed its ability not to quit and fought back presuring the boys in red for 40 minutes. Give credit to the Rowdies for hanging tuff and only allowing one try though they spent the half defending their zone. Final score wash 24-5 as SMRC was not able to put points on the board. more photos here...

A second match against the Rowdies and SMRC rookies took place and SMRC faired much better. The new players in purple looked good on the field and we have a lot to look forward to in the future. PHOTO: Rowdies vs SMRC March 20

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Cape

Sunday, March 27, 2011 - Cape, Mo.

Sunday Morning traveled to Cape Girardeau for their 4th match of the spring season with 23 players. This was one of our largest travels yet. Sunday morning came out a little flat but soon picked up the tempo and scored several tries in the first half, one on a 60 meter run by Sean Bister. Sunday came out in the second half and kept the momentum going by scoring two more tries and a penalty kick for points. With about ten minutes left in the second half Sunday morning let up and the Scorpions scored two quick tries to come within five points. Sunday morning held strong to finish the game with a final score of, SMRC 27 Scorpions 22 - PHD Cameron - Tries:  Sean 2, Zack 2, - Conversions: 2 for 4  Jason

Sunday Morning played a third half against the scorpions and kept the winning up with a try scored by rookie Sujit, which was his first and a penalty kick for points by Dan.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Ruggerfest

Sunday, April 2 and 3, 2011 - St. Louis, Mo.

Sunday Morning participated in the Ruggerfest Tournament in Creve Coeur Park. We had two sides playing games. Their second match was against Cedar Rapids and again played hard but lost 24-5. Their third match was against the Impalas and lost 41-5. Sunday Morning mixed in a lot of new guys to get experience against some of the toughest teams we will see all year.

The Second team playing as a mixed side had three games as well. The first was against Springfield, Mo. Team and lost 52-0. The second was against the ramblers and lost 64-0. The third and last game of the day was against Principia and lost 33-5.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Wash U

Sunday, April 10, 2011 - St. Louis, Mo.

Sunday Morning played the Washington University team at their home pitch of Marquette Park. This was a great opportunity for SMRC to get a lot of quality playing time in for the rookies. Wash U played hard and upbeat but couldn’t keep the Sunday morning ruggers out of the try zone. Bruce scored his zulu try on a 50 meter run. Sunday kept up the good consistent play throughout the match scoring five try’s all together. They also converted two kicks and kicked for three to end with a final score of, SMRC 32 Washington University 0 - PHD Mark - Tries:  Fox 2, Bruce 1, Cameron 1, Zack 1 - Conversions: 2 for 5  Jason

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Springfield Celts

Sunday, May 14, 2011 - St. Louis, Mo.

Sunday Morning Rugby travelled with over 20 players up to Springfield on a cloudy day. Again as shown through the season SMRC came out playing strong rugby. Backs and Forwards working together to move the ball down the field on the Celts. The Celts quickly found themselves behind in the score. The Celts would never recover as the SMRC Backs had a great game scoring many tries. The Forwards themselves not to be outdown by the backs had several tries. The Celts played hard rugby to the end but were over whelmed from the start and never able to recover. Final SMRC 60 - Celts 5. Too many tries to list but PHD: Marcell who had several tries and a great all around match.

Practices held at Marquette Park at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights. New walk on players are always welcome.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Washington Unv.

Sunday, September 12, 2010 - St. Louis, Mo. - Marquette Park

After a great end to the spring season SMRC looked to continue the momentum they had built in the first game of the fall season.  Thirty players were ready to go to open the season, which allowed for two full sides and lots of playing time for everyone.  In the first half of of the game SMRC was able to get three trys on the board.  Sean B. able to score twice and Chris C. was able to score after a charged down kick.  In the second half SMRC was able to get another three trys.  These were scored by Chris F., Sean B., and Allen S.  After missing all of the conversions in the first half Jason M. made both of his attempts and Robbie K. made his only attempt.  A good effort was put in by all the players and the rookies were able to gain some valuable experience.  SMRC looks to clean up the mistakes and build on the positives as they will take on Franklin County on Sunday. Sunday Morning Rugby VS Franklin County

Sunday, September 19,, 2010 - St. Louis, Mo. - Cleveland Field

SMRC looked to go 2-0 on the season as they welcomed the new team in the league Franklin County RFC to the first cup match ever between the two Clubs.  The weather held up and the rainy morning turned into a humid day for rugby . Sunday morning played great defense in the first half but was only able to get one try on the board.  Too many penalties and dropped balls cost purple several scoring chances.  Even with the good defense SMRC almost gave up a try on a bad bounce and some sloppy play.  Sean Bister was able to crash over the try line and with the conversion by Jason Miller Sunday Morning took a 7-0 lead at the half.  The second half was much of the same, good defense a little scoring.  Sean Bister got his second try of the game and Jason Miller made the conversion to make the score 14-0.  Franklin County did get on the board and cut the lead to 14- 5 but SMRC had a quick answer. Chris Fox made a great run, faking out several players and breaking tackles.  He gave the ball to Chet, just inside of the 22, to get his first Sunday Morning try.  All in all a great day and a great win.  Final score SMRC 19  Franklin County 5. Sunday Morning Rugby VS Royals

Sunday, September 25, 2010 - St. Louis, Mo. - Forest Park

SMRC looked to build upon their 2-0 start this season.  Unfortunately things did not go that way.  In the first 20 minutes the Royals were able to get a couple of trys on the board and Sunday had no response.  Missed tackles and some poor decision lead to several of the scores.  SMRC played better to close the half but trailed by four trys at the end of 40 minutes.  Early in the second half Sean Bister got across the try line to give some hope.  The hope was short lived as the Royals took control of the game and put it out of reach with five more trys.  Rob Nichols put in a great effort in stepping into the backfield and earned the PHD.  Final score Royals 52  SMRC 5 Photo: SMRC vs Royals Away Fall 2010

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Scorpions

Sunday, October 3, 2010 - St. Louis, Mo. - Clevelend Field

Sunday Morning looked to rebound after their first loss last week (ending a six match winning streak) to the Royals.  SMRC got the the scoreboard first with Jason M. chasing down his own kick, making the tackle, and then put the ball down in the try zone.  The Scorpions answered right back with a converted try to put them in the lead 7-5.  Sean Bister put purple back out front with one of his classic runs later in the half.  Just before half the scorpions converted a penalty to even the score at ten. Sunday Morning took control in the second half with three trys and two conversions. Several forward rookies (Kyle and Matt) started showing their worth and breaking out of their shell this half with several good runs, good support and ball control. Some great hits slowed down the back line of the Scorpions and opened some running holes for all the backs.  Rookie Zack made and excellent run and was able to get his first career try.  A short time later Allan Skar scored off a line out, thanks to some good work by the backs moving the ball up the pitch and a great job of support by the forwards. The scoring was finished by Sean Bister on a 8 man pick just inside of the 22 meter line.   Jason Miller converted 2 of the 3 scores in the second half to bring the final score to, SMRC 29 Scorpions 10 - PHD Tim Hammer - Trys:  Allan, Sean 2, Zack, Jason - Conversions: 2 for 5  Jason

Practices held at Marquette Park at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights. New walk on players are always welcome.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Hornets

Sunday, March 1, 2010 - St. Louis, MO.

After a long wait the cup was back on the line.  It was a great day for by but the result did not go in the favor of Sunday Morning.  A couple of missed tackles led to the first try by the Hornets.  A second try was scored a few minutes later to put the men in Purple down by ten.  Both teams played solid rugby for the next part of the game until the Hornets where able to put in their third try of the half.  Soon after that, the day improved for Sunday Morning.  Some good running and effort by the pack, led to the first try for Sunday Morning. Sean Bister was able to cross the try line to cut the score at half to 15 to 5.  In the second half Sunday had several chances to cut into the lead but a couple of penalties and a knock on prevented that from happening.  The Hornets were able to score 2 more trys in the second half and one conversion.  Purple got one try on a kick and chase by Jason Miller.  This ended  the scoring at 27-10 Photos of match here...

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Royals

Sunday, March 14, 2010 - St. Louis, Mo.

The sunny skies and good field conditions from last week were gone.  The story of the game was mud .  Sunday morning could not get much of anything going in the sloppy field conditions.  The Royals on the other had were able to capitalize on some of the mistakes by Sunday Morning and get some good bounces to take a lead into the first half.  Some good  rucking and mauling by the forwards got Sunday on the scoreboard early in the second half.  After cutting into the lead Sunday was not able to build on the momentum.  The Royals were able to put another two trys on the scoreboard before the match ended.  Although the score did not end up in Sunday's favor a good effort was put forth by all who stepped into the mud.
Try-  Sean Bister * Conversions- None * PHD-  Dan Photos of match here...

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Hornets (again)

Sunday, March 21, 2010 - St. Louis, Mo.

Another bad weather day and another familiar result.  The game had a very promising start when the men in purple were able to put the ball in the try zone after some good work by the backs.  Chris Calvin was able to get the first score in the corner to give Sunday the lead 5-0.  Due to some missed tackles the score was tied a couple of minues later.  Once again, penalties gave up field postion and eventually a try giving the Hornets a 10-5 half-time lead.  The second half did not go well for Sunday Morning.  A few missed chances and a couple of penalties gave the Hornets several scoring chances that they made good on.  Late in the game Sunday was able to finally get the ball over the try line when DJ was able to push in with the help of Tim Hammer.  Next week it is off to Ft. Wood where hopefully the weather and the result will be better.

Trys - Chris Calvin, DJ * Conversions - None (I (Jason) was very close on both) * PHD - Nick Vassel

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Rowdies VS Ft Wood

Sunday, March 27, 2010 - Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

FINALLY!!  The first win of the season for Sunday Morning.  After a long drive to Ft. Wood Sunday played a great match to get their first victory of the season.  The backs were able to get some running room put Sunday Morning in good position to score the first try of the game.  Good defensive and a hustle gave Sunday a 10 point lead at the half.  A few minutes into the second an other try was scored to give Purple a 15 to 5 advantage.  Sunday was able to hold the lead an play good rugby the rest of the way to earn the victory.

Trys:  Sean Bister, ????, John Pigman Conversions -  NONE, PHD - Darius, Whitley

The second mach of the day against the Rowdies did not go as well as the first.  After a long delay Sunday Morning did not come out and play the way they did in the first match.  Players were playing out of position and a few of the starters from the first match had to return to STL.  All in all the game was not played to the normal standards that SMRC expects to play at.  Sunday was able to play tough at times but the result was one to forget.

27-7 Try Sean Bister, Conversion - Jason Miller, PHD  Robbie

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Rugger Fest

Sunday, April 10, 2010 - St. Louis, Mo.

Game One - St. Louis United
Good defense no offense.  Sunday Morning was able to move the ball down the field and get inside the 22 many times but could not find the try line.  Several penalties gave the opposition chances to score but the defense was able to prevent the scores.  Unfortunately one last penalty decided the game.  With no time left the United squad was able to convert a penalty tom win the game 3-0.

Game Two - Indianapolis Impalas
This game was far different than the first but the out-come was a familiar one.  Sunday was able to get take a 12 to 5 lead with trys scored by DJ and Sean Bister.  Purple still held a 12-10 lead with about five to go.  A couple of missed tackles gave the Impalas the lead 17-12.  Sunday tried to fight back in the closing minutes but ended up giving up another try and conversion.
Trys-  Sean, DJ, Conversions - Jason Miller

Game Three - Minnesota Mayhem
After a 3 hour break and some time to get re-hydrated Sunday was ready to play their final game of the day.  No pep talk was needed to get motivated for this game.  Right away Sunday was able to get across the try line to get the scoring started.    A slight let up gave up a single try but that was it.  Purple was able to move the ball well in both the forwards and the backs.  Trys were scored abundantly.  Sean Bister scored only one but set up at least 2 other scores with good passes inside the 22.  Robbie Kuhlman did a great job kicking following the ball to get his scores.  A great way to end the day with a 49-5 victory.
Trys-  Robbie 2,Yellow Shoes, Sean B.,Allen, Derek, TJ, Jason, Rookie(Can't remember Name)
(I think this is right )
Conversions  Jason 1 Robbie 1

Game Four - Des Moines

Once again another tough hard fought game without a victory.  An early try put Sunday down 7-0.  That was quickly erased by a try and conversion.  Penalties and more penalties kept on giving the opposition good field position and scoring chances.  This eventually caught up with Sunday Morning.  Even though a sure score was chased down Sunday could not clear the ball out of their end  and eventually gave up the score.  Purple was able to get another score to make it close but gave up another try and conversion to go down to defeat again.  All in all a hard fought tournament by Sunday Morning but not the results that everyone wanted.
Trys-  Sean , Dan, Conversion -  Jason

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Rolla

Sunday, April 24, 2010 - St. Louis, Mo.

A good win but improvements can still be made.  Sunday Morning possesed the ball the majority of the first twenty minutes but could not seem to take advantage of all the opportunities.  Finally Sean B. was able to break a couple of tackles and put in the first score of the game.  A short time later Jason was able to chase down is own kick and beat the Rolla defender to the ball for the second score of the game.  Good work on the maul earned Sunday their third try of the half when Tim H. was able to score.  Purple took a 17-0 lead to the half but it could have been much more.  In the first few minutes of the second half John P. got the ball on a scissors and was able to run over the full back to put Purple up 22-0.  That ended up to be the final score.  Sunday Morning played great defense and held Rolla out of the try zone, even with the many subs in the game, at least 30 different players got in the game before the rains came.  A great effort earned SMRC their first shut-out of the spring season.

Trys -  Sean Bister, Jason Miller, Tim Hamer, John Pigman - Coversions - 1 Jason Miller - PHD Chris Fox

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Peoria Pigs

Sunday, May 2, 2010 - St. Louis, Mo.

A tale of two halves...  In the first half of the game Sunday Morning could not find the try line.  Much of the first half SMRC had the ball inside of the 22 but a rash of knock ons, forward passes, and penalties cost the team many chances to score.  The defensive effort was ok but a couple of break downs led to two trys for the pigs.  The second half started by Sunday getting a score in the corner.  Sean H. took the ball from a maul that was headed for the touch line and got it down just before being sent out of bounds.  A second try was scored a few minutes later by a great effort by the pack off a lineout push down the sideline with Doug G. rolling the mall to hand off to Sean B. for a try to bring the total score with-in 2 points.  The decisive score was set up by some great play by Tom and Dan.  The wing and forward teamed up on some good passes and covering of kicks to set up a score under the posts by Sean B. The defense was better in the second half and did not allow the Pigs any real scoring chances.  The backs moved the ball well but a few drops and arrant passes prevented SMRC from converting on some scoring chances.  At the end of the day it was a good hard fought win. Sunday Morning Rugby VS Celts

Sunday, May 8, 2010 - Springfield, IL

Sunday Morning traveled to Springfield, IL anticipating a rough, old school style game and they were not disappointed. Then "friendly" match took place on a chilly windy day and it was on. The first half set the tone of the match to be a hard running and hitting match up typical when these two teams meet. Sunday Morning was able to score in the first half and never looked back after that. Second half was more of the same style of rugby with a little pushing and shoving but all was well at the end of the match with another Sunday Morning Rugby Victory! Photos of match here...

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Principia College

Sunday, May 22, 2010 - Principia College, IL.

Principia Thunder Chickens hosted Sunday Morning Rugby on a beautiful sunny day. Sunday Morning new that they would need to be up for playing all 80 minutes because Principia is a well conditioned team. They rugby match was all action using the full pitch to move the ball up and down but Sunday Mornings forwards play were a little to much for the Thunder Chickens to handle as we controlled the ball most of the match in the rucks and malls. Principia turned ther strategy to run hard at our backs but again with improved condioning through the season Sunday Morning Players where ready. Scoreing occured back and forth but Sunday Morning held on in the end with their lead and continued to improve and finish off the season with another Victory! Photos of match here...

Sunday, September 12, 2009 - Twin Oaks, MO. - Budar Park

Sunday Morning Started out the Season with an influx of young rookie players needing some seasoning. Starting out the year with the Royals Tournament was a good introduction to many of the new faces trying to earn their spot in the line up. Three hard fought matches were played in the tournament and though we did not get a win much experience was gained by the rookie line up. Photo: Royals Tournament 2009.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Celts

Saturday, April 18, 2009 - Springfield, IL.

The final game of the season was played on a sunny afternoon and ends in a lost to the Celts. Traveling with only 15 players and the coach stepping in to play to make 16 total the match on Saturday was hard fought. The match started with Springfield scoring on several mistakes by Sunday Morning. Two penalty kicks and a penalty try allowed the Celts to take a good lead into half-time.  Sunday morning was able to score late in the half to cut into the lead. After an early try by Springfield, the second half belonged to the men in purple. SMRC did a good job controlling the ball for most the match and with many whistles from the referee a majority of the action ended up as forwards play. Sunday Morning played a very strong second half pinning the Celts in their side of the pitch for almost the entire time and some hard runs by our backs to put pressure on their back line but the damage had been done earlier in the match with break away scores by the Celts. The final minutes had SMRC pushing hard to score on the goal line. With over five penalties called on the opposing team all within 10 meters of the goal line and a try called back SMRC ran out of clock to finish the game with a try that would have won the match. We would like to thank Springfield for inviting us up to play and hosting us after the match. An enjoyable time was had by all. Final: 18-15. PHD: John P, Trys-  Sean B 2, Matt E. 1.

Next match will be with the 7's Team over the summer. Schedule to be anounced soon.

Full team practices will be held at Marquette Park at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights until June at which time 7s practice will begin. All players are encouraged to make practices in summer to help with conditioning and to support our 7s team. New walk on players are always welcome.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Principia

Saturday, April 11, 2009 - Elsah, IL.

After a great showing at Ruggerfest, Sunday Morning was looking forward to building momentum against Principia. Unfortunately that did not happen. In the first half Principia capitalized on some mistakes and scored two trys. The first occurred when a kick was charged down at the try line and came to a stop in the back of the try zone. A few minutes later a clearing kick did not find the touch line and after a few missed tackles a second try was scored. In the second half Sunday Morning was able to get the first try to close the gap. Some good work by the forwards lead to Doug Gonzalez crossing the try line for his first try of the season. Sunday Morning was not able to build on this and allowed Principia to score again. In the final few minutes Sean Bister scored just after the initial attempt was held up in the try zone. In a short 3rd half Sunday Morning was able to score the only try to salvage one small victory on the day. Principia played with great intensity and did an excellent job of making tackles. Sunday Morning's efforts were good but not able to match that of the Thunder Chickens. Final 19-14. Trys: Doug and Sean PHD:  Max

Next match will be against the Celts in Springfeild, IL. April 18, 2009 1:00pm start.

Practices held at Marquette Park at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights. New walk on players are always welcome.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Ruggerfest

Saturday, April 4-5, 2009 - Maryland Heights, MO.

Match One vs Chicago Condors

After two straight loosing weekends Sunday morning had an impressive showing at Ruggerfest. In the first match Sunday morning played the West Side Condors from Chicago. The match featured some tough forwards play by both teams. The Condors took an early lead but Sunday answered right back with a try by Sean Bister and a conversion by Chris Fox to give purple a 7-5 lead at the half. The second half featured some great defense by forwards and backs and close calls. Twice the Condors had chances to take the lead but missed penalty kicks. In the final minutes a potential winning try was held up to preserve the victory for Sunday morning. Final Score 7-5. PHD Award Sean Bister.

Match Two vs Washington University

The second game featured Sunday Morning vs. Wash U. The first half saw both teams score two trys. Sunday Morning scored first with some excellent ball movement by the backs allowing Nathen Thompson (Zulu) to score is first try. The next two trys were scored by Wash U due to some mistakes and missed tackles by Sunday Morning. In the last minute of the half Sunday took the lead when Jason Miller was able to sneak over the try line. Chris Fox was able to make the conversion to give Purple a 12-10 lead. In the second half neither team was able to score. Sunday morning held on to their lead to make them 2-0 on the day. Final Score 12-10. PHD Award Matt Eaton.

Match Three vs Milwaukee

In the third match Sunday took on the Milwaukee Rugby Club. Sunday having played their way into the elite eight and after ten hours of tournament put up a valiant fight against a very good Milwaukee Club. Even though the result did not turn out like the first two the efforts of the men in Purple did not let up. Sunday had some chances to score but could not retain possession long enough to get over the try line. Forwards and Backs both showed some grit after a long day. Even though the day ended with a loss it was a great day of rugby. Final 24-0. PHD Josh Buchannon. Photos of Ruggerfest.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Rowdies 2009 Season

Saturday, March 28,2009 - North End Park Belleville, IL.

For the second Saturday in a row Sunday Morning failed to put points on the board. The bad weather and field conditions did not help the the cause either with moments of down pooring rain before, after, and during the match. Sunday Morning had a difficult time with transition ball control. While Sunday morning struggled with these things the Rowdies seemed to have little trouble adjusting to the weather conditions. Sunday had several chances to put points on the board but mistakes ruined those chances. A good effort was put forth by the team that the score does not reflect. Ben, in his final game for a while due to Uncle Sam's needs, was awarded the PHD for his great hustle and being everywhere on the field. Thank you to the Rowdies for hosting us after the match! A fun time as always! Next weekend Sunday Morning will be playing at Ruggerfest. The opening match is at 8:00 AM vs. the Milwaukee Harliquins.

Practices held at Marquette Park at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights. New walk on players are always welcome.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Royals 2009 Season

Saturday, March 21,2009 - Forest Park St. Louis, Mo.

A perfect day for rugby turned into a rough day for Sunday Morning.  The first few minutes saw some good rugby by both teams. The Royals were able to score the game's first try about 10 minutes into the match. Sunday Morning had a great chance to score, minutes later but committed one of many penalties that proved to be a big problem the rest of the half. On top of the many penalties, there were many missed tackles and frequent over-loads in the back line. Having two men the in the sin-bin made the end of the first even more of a challenge. Changes were made at half to put a better defensive line-up in the game. The defensive effort was improved, but it did not do much to impact the final score. After 80 minutes the score produced 0 points for Sunday Morning. A great effort was shown by those still on the field. A third half was played with a much more respectable score. A very tired group of Sunday Morning players was able to hold the Royals to only one score in the short 20 minute half.  Next week Sunday Morning travels to Belleville, IL to take on the Rowdies.

Practices held at Marquette Park at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights. New walk on players are always welcome.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Ft Wood and Rolla 2009 Season

Saturday, March14,2009 - Rolla, Mo.

Match One Vs. Fort Wood

The weather was perfect for rugby but the result did not end up as we had hoped.  The first half was filled with some hard hits, lucky bounces, and some challenged calls. Fort Wood scored the first try in the half and followed up with a second score of a missed drop kick bouncing off the post right to one of the their forwards. Sunday played a much better second half but the effort did not result in a comeback.  Taking control of the ball and working on field position Sunday Morning was able to avoid the shut-out in the last couple of minutes and push the length of the pitch for a try.  Sean Bister scored his third try of the season after some excellent work by the forwards. Score Final 5 -10. Trys - Rythem Rob, Conversions - None

Match Two vs. Rolla

After a tough game Sunday was able to take out their aggression vs. Rolla.  Some good ball movement by the back line and some pick and goes by the forwards resulted in the first try.  Mike Whitely rucked over the ball allowing Jason Miller to pick it up and fall over the try line.  A few minutes later Sunday put in the second try of the match to give Purple a 14-0 lead at the half.  The second half featured a great goal line stand.  Rolla had at least five minutes of play inside of 10 meters but were turned away on each effort.  Two more trys were scored in the second half, including a long run by the backs to score on the final play.  The final score ended up 24-0. Trys- Jason Miller, Phil, ???, ??? Conversions- Jason Miller 2. PHD- John Pigman  John had some great runs but was best remembered for his hard hits. Call of the Day - Tim Hammer  The BBQ stop was great!

Practices held at Marquette Park at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights. New walk on players are always welcome.

Sunday Morning Rugby VS Scorpions 2009 Season

Sunday March 8, 2009 Forest Park after the storms passed through the real storm began. The first half was filled with big hits and many tries. Sunday and the Scorpions traded scores throughout the first half with the half ending with Sunday holding a slight lead. The second half featured much of the same. Sean Bister scored a great try down the left side to put SMRC up by a few with about five minutes to play.  After some back and forth play, Kohfield scored in the corner after the pass from the scrum some how found its way to the inside center who was able to touch it down with about a minute to play. SMRC had one last chance but could not find the try line going into the wind in the last minute. This was great game with an unfortunate finish 39-34. Tries were scored by DJ 2,Chris Fox 1 & 2 kicks, Josh 1, and Bister 2.  The PHD (given to the player who plays above their normal match) went to Jonathan who came in a scrum half and played and excellent last 40. Next week Sunday travels to Fort Lenardwood to avenge a lost last spring. Game time, Saturday, 1:00 @ Fort Wood.

Just a couple of points about the game from the Andy the Head Coach:

Practices held at Marquette Park at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights. New walk on players are always welcome.
