SMRC Goes Global!

From the beginning of the Team the membership started to travel the Country and a "road trip" was planned for every season a tradition that continues to this day. It was probably inevitable that some one would finally come up with the idea to travel outside the States. (Most notably a foreigner playing with our Club who had traveled the world) So the odyssey began with a trip in 2001 to Wales England. The plan was to not only to see the tourist sites but to also venture off into the less traveled roads and most importantly to play a few matches of rugby. A competitive team was composed of current players at that time and old boys who were cheered on by wives, girlfriends and friends of SMRC that made the Atlantic crossing. The trip was a great success and those who traveled came back with tall tales to tell. Within three years 'man' a second trip was planned to Jamaica 'man' in 2003 'man'. Having two tours under our belts and learning from our mistakes the Club decided to try and set a time table for international tours every two years. The Spain tour followed in 2006 with SMRC playing two of the closest matches yet against teams from Algorta (northern Spain near Bilbao) and an expats team in Madrid. The Ireland tour followed in 2008 where we traveled the Dingle Peninsula and played one of the windiest rugby games ever by SMRC. In 2010 Argentina was the next destination were SMRC won its first international match and played three different Argentinean Clubs. The next stop in the Sunday Morning Rugby Club's world tour has been decided... Germany in 2012. Click here for more information on the upcoming trip.
